Introduction to Civil Procedure Research

Federal Rules of Civil Procedure  govern civil lawsuit procedure in federal trial courts.  State court civil trials are governed by each state's rules, for example the Ohio Rules of Civil Procedure. Each individual court (e.g., United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio or Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas) has its own local rules, See e.g., Ohio Local Rules, which cover issues the state/federal rules do not.  There may be statutes governing procedures, such as Ohio Rev Code Chapters 2327-2333 regarding execution of judgments.
